Technocracy Game for 2015

I am going to run a game of Mage the Ascension focused on the technocracy as heroes, trying to clean up reality. In a previous game I ran, the technocracy became aware, through the actions of the Black Spiral Dancers, of the existence of The Wyrm, the living concept of entropy. This is obviously unacceptable, and so a team is being assembled to study the problem, and to construct a synthetic concept of destruction, which will be far more manageable than the current living one.

I plan to run this game one Sunday per month, starting in February.

Because this is the technocracy, I am asking for your character's backstory to be written in the form of a resume and cover letter. Obviously, since you are the team constructing a synthetic concept of destruction to replace The Wyrm, this will be a high-level game. In your resume, please list your patents, by which I mean rotes.

In addition to the ideas conveyed in your resume and cover letter, please have a hook for your character, which connects her to the real world. Examples include a family, a hobby, membership in the local farmer's market, etc. You don't need to tell me your hook right away, but it will come out in the job interview/prelude.

Below are five possible character archetypes I am looking for. It us up to you to flesh them out into interesting characters. If you think of an archetype you do not see here, please respond anyway (including what the job posting would have looked like if I had thought of it).

Wanted: Recession Expert
Required Experience: Must have at least 15 years experience on Federal Reserve, World Bank, or similar. Please include in your cover letter at least one recession you caused and one you prevented and why you chose each action. Must be comfortable with extra-planar travel. Must have at least five patents.

Wanted: Epidemiologist
Required Experience: Must have at least 15 years experience with CDC, Doctors without Borders, or similar. Please include in your cover letter at least one epidemic you caused, and one you discovered. Discuss how these epidemics were positive and how they were negative in the development of humanity. Must be comfortable with extra-planar travel. Must have at least five patents.

Wanted: Anarchy Expert
Required Experience: Must have at least 15 years experience in embassies to brutal dictatorships. Please include in your cover letter at least one goverment you destroyed, and another you saved from destruction. Must be comfortable with extra-planar travel. Must have at least five patents.

Wanted: Intellectual Property Repossessor
Required Experience: Must have at least 15 years experience in a patent office or similar. Please include in your cover letter at least two patents which you deemed dangerous enough to remove them directly from the minds of the people who wrote them. Must be comfortable with extra-planar travel. Must have at least five patents.

Wanted: Abnormal Psychologist
Required Experience: Must have at least 15 years experience working with patients whose mental illnesses are particularly debilitating. Please include in your cover letter brief descriptions of the declines of at least two patients. Must be comfortable with extra-planar travel. Must have at least five patents.

PicniCon XVI: Thank you all

PicniCon XVI doors have closed, and, since LionCub is asleep, the house is quiet.  Thanks to all who attended, especially my clone brother for making the trek up from NJ, to John Hubal, co-founder of BostonGamers who called in to a resounding cheer, and Tyler and Karyn for their behind-the-scenes help that keeps the con rolling.  We love running this every year, and at the 10th anniversary of holding it at our own house, we could not have had more fun.   Thanks, all, and more next year!

PICNICON XVI: OMG Our Con Can Drive! Friday, July 4th at 12:00 noon -> Sunday, July 6th at 6:00 pm

PicniCon XVI: OMG Our Con Can Drive!
For our new members, Picnicon is Bostongamers annual gathering, a weekend of good games, good friends, and good food!
WHERE:
In the home of BostonGamers' benevolent Dictator, Vivian Abraham. We are in Somerville, the Gaming Nexus, reasonably close to the T. The address is 11 Fenwick Street, #2, easily accessible by bus from Sullivan Station and Davis Square, a few blocks walk from the bus to/from Lechmere. We have _some_ parking available as well. Let us know if you are coming via car in advance, and we can arrange for Somerville party permits.
WHEN:
Friday, July 4th at 12:00 noon -> Sunday, July 6th at 6:00 pm
(come early, and you'll get drafted to clean.  Stay late, the same)
WHAT TO BRING:
There's both crash space and facilities to cook and store food, so bring sleeping bags if you're crashing and either food to cook or money to order out or chip in for groceries. Viv and I will be cooking and others are welcome to join us. I (Daniel) will provide many, many buffalo wings Friday evening, as is traditional. A note on alcohol: you are welcome to bring it, we usually have a big game of Baron Munchausen one night which involves lots of drinking, but we reserve the right to collect keys and/or cut folks off if necessary.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Everyone should come prepared to play and/or run a game, bring board games, or do something to make it fun for everyone - unlike many gaming conventions, this is a group-participation event, so don't hesitate to join in and plan some events! They'll be lots of willing people to help!
On the slate this year:
* The traditional (and infamous) late-night Baron Munchausen game  (tall tales in the grand manner),
* Circumstances willing, a grand game of Encore, the team singing and lyrics game.
* [insert your game here]
GAME MASTERS!
If you want to run a scheduled game at PicniCon, please send me an email with:
* The name of the game
* The number of players you want
* The system
* If you're using pre-generated characters or want people to bring them
* How long you expect the game to run
We'll still have room for pickup games, but we want to put some games on the map first.
LET US KNOW!
Allergies:
Cats: sadly, only the one cat this year (Miles)
Foods: Please notify me of any food allergies and/or restrictions, and we'll do our best to accommodate.
Kids of All Ages: Welcome! The boy plays Ticket To Ride, Innovation, Ingenious, Dominion, Rumis, Lords of Waterdeep, and anything he can get his hands on...and will want to play with you.  Feel free to play or refuse.  [Proud sponsors of the Geek Parent Conspiracy]
Stuff: We are set on folding tables and chairs.
Games: Bring _some_ games, but not _all_ your games.  Feel free to send me a list of the games you want to bring, and I'll coordinate to reduce the number of multiple copies. For example. we're cool on Cosmic Encounters (the new new one with the expansion)

nervous converse (hard candy)

(no subject)

Hey guys. My name is Angela and I work with AlliedTHA and Lionsgate here in Boston. We're currently promoting the film "Dredd" (based on the Judge Dredd comics) and I was wondering what the best way would be to contact someone about giving you guys some free passes to see an advanced screening in Boston.

Can someone please comment here with an email address I can send the information and link to? We work through gofobo, so you'll be able to then forward on the link to others for everyone to share. There's no obligation or catch on your end; we're just looking for local groups that fit our target demographic and, being a geek myself, I'm more willing to venture onto LJ, DW, and other places that our company would not normally express interest in.

Thanks!
Angela

(Please forgive the roleplay journal; I don't have a personal journal here on LJ.)
